The NEUTRON
In 1932, he proved the existence of the neutron. The neutron is a particle with no electric charge. Another scientist used a gamma ray on a piece of wax to remove the protons from the atom. What Chadwick had found out, however, was that the protons had been hit by a neutral particle, the neutron! This was very important to physicists because the discovery of the existence of the neutron lead to nuclear fission of uranium, which eventually led to the creation of the nuclear bomb. The nuclear bomb would play an important role in World War II.
